Before subscription and production

A precise definition of the starting point, outcome and mastery standard.

Before starting

Suggested prior knowledge

  • Connects sounds with letters and vowel marks
  • Blends syllables to read a word
  • Follows the line without losing place
To confirm mastery

Expected evidence of performance

  • Reads sukun, shadda and tanwin
  • Recognises common words quickly
  • Reads sentences in meaningful chunks
  • Orders a story’s beginning, middle and end
Mastery rule

A skill counts as acquired only after two successes: once in direct practice and once in a new task the child has not seen before.

Measurement checkpoints

Assessment throughout, not just a final test

  1. Starting assessment after unit 2
  2. Progress assessment after unit 5
  3. Transfer assessment after unit 8
  4. Final mastery task after unit 10
In-lesson support

Support decreases as the child progresses

Accessible Modern Standard Arabic with visual explanations and clear audio.

Functional vowel marks gradually reduced, with difficult words kept marked.

Three paths

The same level, a suitable challenge for every child

  • Support: A short support bridge revisits the smallest missing skill in Accuracy, fluency and comprehension, using a simpler model and more practice.
  • Main path: The main path follows the ten units with spaced review of earlier skills.
  • Challenge: The challenge path applies the same level 2 skill in a richer text or task, without randomly jumping to another level’s content.
Transfer to everyday life

Final mastery project

Reader portfolio: your child reads a new text related to “A story I read and retell”, explains their understanding and finds evidence.

Optional home practice: 5–8 minutes: a short read-aloud followed by one meaning question, without turning home into a classroom.

A familiar routine in every unit

Your child knows the stages, while the content increasingly challenges their thinking.

I prepare meaning and vocabulary before reading
